Most of us shop for fabric like it's a competitive sport. Not because we don't love the fabric we already have, but because there's always more to discover, more to collect, and another beautiful print we just can't leave behind.
Somewhere along the way, many of us forgot how to trust our stashes — to believe that what we already own is enough to make something wonderful.
The Stash Challenge is about changing that. It's a chance to shop what you have, rediscover forgotten favorites, and see just how much you can create with the fabric already waiting for you.
Take a photo of the fabrics you want to use this year.
Pick a fabric you've been saving for the perfect project.
Make something from scraps and leftovers.
Use a fat quarter that's been waiting for its moment.
Choose one stalled project and move it forward.
What have you used, learned, or changed?

Patty Murphy has written three books. She's a pattern designer and teacher. She's been sewing all her life but began to focus on the intersection of quilting and sustainability several years ago because of her concern about the environment.
Her first book, Piecing Makeover, continues to sell after its initial publication in 2016. Her most recent book, Zero Waste Quilting, focuses on creating capsule collections in order to minimize fabric waste.
